Know Your Life

Introduction

As a human, we spend less time in knowing ourselves and move in the future with the flow of time. This means that we look in the past for our success and failures, but do not look at the resulting emotion out of that event and move forward. It is therefore, we do not know “how we are” and commit similar mistakes along the line in future.  If we know, how we are will help in knowing ourselves better and then remain careful about our actions in future. We shall be more aware about ourselves. This short write-up is throwing some light on how we can know ourselves better and take careful decisions in future. The idea is very similar to risk management, to know the risk in advance using some past data point and take/plan the mitigating action.

Physical Phenomenon

This world is full of data points but we seldom use them; the key is how we use those data points for our own benefits. Mathematics is nothing but shorthand of representation of those physical phenomenons resulting into lots of data points. Every physical phenomenon has a pattern and a trend, be it a change in weather condition, flow of air, flow of water, pattern of growth of trees and plants, human growth, behaviors, you name it and it has a pattern.

Based on the past pattern and trend, you can always draw a mathematical /statistical curve (process) that will fit into the past data point and future under the normal condition will behave along the line of curve. So study of past data point is important which gives us valuable information that can be used for future decision making.

Our Lives

The same is true with us; every individual has a unique curve which behaves in a certain way. It is important to know our own curve because that helps in knowing ourselves and act accordingly in different life situation. Many of us do not know how we are?

To draw our own curve, it is important to know our past data points; and such data point will be different for different individuals. This can be done by recalling our own behavior in different situation in the past, like how we acted when we were happy, sad, frustrated, sorrowed, success, failure and many other points one may wish to take.

The above mentioned points, such as happy, sad, etc take on the x-axis and our response behavior on y-axis, a central line can be drawn as our normal behavior  and plot our responses against the y-axis. The data points under the different situation will either be on the central line, or above the line or below the line. Higher the point above the central line represents the high level of happiness or high state of mind, while data points below the central line represent sorrow or low state of mind. The central line is ideal state of mind which does not changes with the change in the situation and can be treated as hypothetical line and no one has the ability to be on this line all the time.  The data points can be similar to the chart shown in the graph below:-

Once all the data points are plotted, the life line is ready to tell how we are, this tell us the description of how we have behaved in the past under different situation. Under some situation, one may find too much variation from the central line indicating high level of variance based on situation. The ideal situation should be most of the points should be very close to the central line stating the stable state of mind.

One may find that those people who have higher level of variance against the central line are in a poor health with chronic disease such as diabetes, hypertension, regular headache, mood swings, body ache etc. On the other hand those with data points close to the central line are in a relative better health.

This line should be used as a guide for ourselves in future by observing the past pattern and making changes in our thought process for future. As a result of the correction, the future data point should be close to the central line to have stable mindset.

Knowing ourselves helps a lot in dealing better with difficult situation by making regular corrections in ourselves. Only an honest analysis will be helpful in having better healthy life. Such analysis will be help us averting the possible future risks.

The same technique is used in Machine Learning.
