Odisha holds 2-day workshop on disaster & risk management

In association with Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA), National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is conducting a workshop on Disaster Risk Reduction Measures in Bhubaneswar, starting from February 10 – 11, 2020.

Several states including West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Odisha will take part in the workshop and will discuss issues and measures in relation to the mitigation of disasters, such as, cyclones, floods, medical emergencies and earthquakes and its preparedness. The use of GIS in Disaster Risk Management will also be an topic discussion in the workshop.

Shri GVV Sarma, IAS, Member Secretary, NDMA will mark the beginning of the inaugural session with the keynote address. Shri UP Singh, IAS, Secretary, Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Govt. of India, Shri Asit Kumar Tripathy, MS, Chief Secretary, Govt. of Odisha, Shri Pradeep Jena, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Govt. of Odisha will attend the workshop.

Renowned persons form Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Meteorological Department (MD), Central Water Commission (CWC), National Centre for Seismology (NCS), Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), National Informatics Centre (WC) and several other relevant state level organizations will share their valuable insights views on Disaster Risk Reduction Measures.

It is expected that this workshop will open up an opportunity for states to share their experiences and issues, while learning from each another.
