Organisations in Singapore are increasingly improving their cyber risk management practices, yet breaches linked to third-party suppliers continue to challenge operational resilience, according to recent research. Over the past year nearly half of surveyed firms reported multiple breaches attributable to vendor networks, underscoring ongoing vulnerabilities in supply chain security even as risk frameworks evolve.
The findings reveal that 48% of Singapore organisations experienced between two and five third-party breaches in the prior 12 months, while 36% reported at least one incident, reflecting both an increase in attacks and greater detection capabilities. More than half of respondents indicated multiple breaches via external providers, highlighting how interconnected vendor ecosystems can amplify exposure.
For insurers, reinsurers and managing general agents active in Asia’s cyber segment, this pattern of persistent supplier breaches has direct implications for underwriting and product design. Contingent business interruption, technology errors and omissions, and standalone cyber policies may need to account more explicitly for supply chain triggers and dependencies on critical service providers.
The research also suggests that cyber risk is no longer a back-burner governance issue. Approximately 32% of firms report third-party cyber exposure to executive leadership on a monthly basis, indicating that boards and C-suites are increasingly engaged in supplier risk oversight. Organisations are planning to boost investment in third-party risk management (TPRM) over the next year, with 98% intending to increase spending — up from 90% previously. Many are also outsourcing analysis of monitoring data to external specialists, reflecting the complexity of managing vendor ecosystems.
While Singapore’s cyber risk practices are maturing, the prevalence of supply chain breaches serves as a clear reminder that even sophisticated internal defences must be paired with robust third-party oversight to strengthen enterprise resilience.
