Union Budget proposes to set up cyber forensics university

As the Union Budget proposes of setting up of a national university for cyber forensics and forensic science, the cyber security experts are hopeful that a crucial gap in training cyber security professionals will be addressed.

Pankit Desai, co-founder, Sequretek, a cyber intelligence firm said, “(This) should be a good move if it becomes a model for creating a replicable cyber forensics setup. Today each state has its own setup and there are some universities that have build out capabilities, but there is no standardisation.”

Trishneet Arora, chief executive officer, TAC Security, said, “With the allocation of Rs. 8000 crore for the National Mission on Quantum Computing and Technology and an indication at the opening of Cyber Forensic University … will help position India against global leaders in the sector. These budget announcements shall boost the Indian players’ morale in the cyber security space, giving boost to the further success of the Make in India and Digital India flagship campaigns of GoI.”

Prashant Bhat, MD Cybersecurity & Privacy, Protiviti India, said, “Cyber forensics training is the need of the hour as there is a big shortage of professionals in this domain in the country today. A dedicated university will be able to select the right candidates and train them adequately to the expectations of the business. This will also enable organisations do get access to workforce for delivering high quality of work in a short time.”

“With increased cyber attacks, the need for a national capability to identify the perpetrators and supporting law enforcement would be welcome,” said Desai.
